Sewing Saturday: Anarkali Suit from Scrap Fabric

As I mentioned in this post a few weeks back, I’ve been really enjoying learning to sew as a creative outlet! I’ve decided that I’m going to start a Sewing Saturday feature to share my progress. My little creation for this week is a colorful anarkali suit-inspired dress.

I’ve had this fabric for a while; I got a whole bunch of random fabric scraps from a friend, and I spent a long time trying to figure out what to do with them. I knew that if I wanted to design an entire look, I would need to get creative and combine all of the little bits and pieces. An anarkali-style skirt, with its many pleats, seemed like a perfect way to incorporate the different colors and patterns!

Originally, I was planning to use only the red, blue, and green fabrics. I ended up adding in the yellow to maximize the volume of the skirt (I originally wanted a full-circle skirt, but geometry wasn’t on my side and I had to scale down to a 1/2-circle skirt).

Y’all have no idea how excited I was when everything actually came together! Drawing patterns is pretty daunting, and so is attaching sleeves. I was honestly a little amazed when it slipped on and actually fit the way I had planned. I did the math right! Now I need to practice making more precise bodice fits with darts. Practice makes perfect!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!
