Bubble Run Atlanta

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that I did the Bubble Run Atlanta this weekend, my first 5k ever! I signed up for it with friends way back in the summer, told myself that i would train, then started grad school and promptly forgot about anything exercise related.

I have to admit that I wasn’t prepared to really run on race day, and I only managed to jog for short spurts. On the plus side, that gave me a lot more time to linger in the bubble bogs along the route! It was actually scary the first time the bubbles went completely over my head, but I was running back in for more before long!

This was also my first time at Lake Lanier Islands. It was a perfect day, cool and sunny, and the view of Lake Lanier was magnificent. I’m definitely going to have to go back some other time when I can explore more.

You can tell that we got pretty messy (but does it really count as getting messy if we’re covered in soap bubbles?), but it was super exciting to have our once-pristine white shirts change color as we ran through each bubble bog. I’m hoping that the color stays on the shirt as a memento!

The before/after photos really show who was taking the ‘run’ part of the Bubble Run seriously and who was more excited about playing in the colorful bubbles.

Even though I mostly walked this one, I’ve really been inspired to train and try another 5k. It may be a while before I have enough endurance to run the entire thing, but you have to start somewhere… and in my opinion, a bubble run is a pretty good place to start!

Have you ever done a 5k with a fun theme? How did you train for it? Let me know in the comments!
